Yellow-Eyed Ensatina Salamander
(Digital Images)
An opportunity to walk along a quiet country road.
Enjoying subtle seasonal changes.
And colorful wild mushrooms.
Observing the natural world.
Lichen thrives in the moist springtime air.
An old stump half buried in roadside leaf litter.
Home to a seldom seen woodland creature.
The Yellow-Eyed Ensatina Salamander, a Monterey sub-species.
Lung less, respiring completely through its skin. Very fragile, avoid handling.
Disturbed by fresh air and light, it retreated to the recesses of its dark earthen home.
While above ground spring wildflowers bloomed.
